ON OUR AfroPanama group trip, we immerse ourselves in the histories of Afro-Caribbean and Afro-colonial peoples on the isthmus, communities whose labor, worldmaking, and cultural production form the very foundations of Panama. We travel to Colón Province, often called the “Blackest” province in the country (though Black life is everywhere in Panama), and to Taboga Island, another Afro-descended space layered with history and presence. Throughout Panama City, we traverse key public sites to engage the African and Black histories that structure the city itself—histories often obscured yet ever-present.
AfroPanama City Tour for Locals in Panama during AfroPanamanian month: May 2 and 9th!
For a limited time this May, we’re offering a special local rate for our signature Afro-Panama City Walking Tour on May 2nd and May 9th. This experience is designed for those living in Panama who want a deeper, more rigorous understanding of Afro-Panamanian history—told through a Black lens that centers lived experience, historiography, and the ongoing presence of Black communities often excluded from dominant narratives. We move through the city not as passive observers, but as critical witnesses, engaging the layered histories of Afro-colonial and Afro-Caribbean peoples, the spatial politics that shape Panama City, and the cultural legacies that continue to define it. If you’re ready to see Panama differently—and to understand the histories that have always been here but rarely taught—join us. Limited spots available.
From Salsa Capital of the World Calí, Colombia and Whale-Watching on the AfroPacific Coast - Blackness Throughout Colombia
ON OUR Afro-Colombia group trip, we begin in Cali, the salsa capital of the world, where AfroColombian guides ground us in the African histories and contemporary Black life of the city. Our dates align with Festival de Música del Pacífico Petronio Álvarez—the largest celebration of the Black Pacific, where music, memory, and movement converge. We then travel to Colombia’s Pacific coast, tracing the origins of the musical traditions and cultural lineages that give Petronio its meanings. There, we experience whale watching—an awe-inspiring, once-in-a-lifetime encounter—and take in the extraordinary ecological richness of the region: waterfalls, rivers, lagoons, and dense landscapes stewarded by Afro-Colombian communities through generations of environmental guardianship.

In the Pacific Coast’s beauty
Across all trips, we listen, learn, and exchange with cultural workers, musicians, artists, and community members—centering local knowledge and lived experience at every step. These are deeply immersive, intellectually grounded journeys. Secure your spot now.
November AfroBrazil Group Trip Open and Filling Up
Join us November 17th–24th for our Afro-Brazil group trip, intentionally timed with Brazil’s Black Consciousness Month—a critical period of reflection, resistance, and affirmation across the country. Moving between São Paulo and Salvador, this experience is grounded in the historiography of Afro-Brazilians, centering the intellectual, cultural, and political traditions that have shaped, and continue to shape, Brazil. Both cities hold some of the largest Black populations in the Americas; and while São Paulo is often constructed and imagined as a white city, it is in fact profoundly Black home to some of the country’s most prominent Black intellectuals, organizers, and movement builders emerging from São Paulo state.
This is a Black-centered, educational journey that begins well before departure through curated materials and monthly group meetings designed to deepen context, sharpen analysis, and build collective engagement. On the ground, we connect with Black communities, cultural practitioners, and local spaces in ways that challenge dominant narratives and reframe how Brazil is seen and understood. If you’re looking for a trip that is as rigorous as it is immersive, this is for you.
